In addition to a well-rounded, values-based core academic curriculum, Saint Barnabas Elementary School also offers:
TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM Each student in Grades K to 8 has an assigned Chromebooks. In addition, there are interactive boards in every classroom. There are also numerous iPads and other technological devices available for our students to utilize in order to enhance their learning experience.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION SBES believes that Physical Education is an integral part of a student's health and well-being. All students participate in Physical Education in the school's full-size gym once a week.
ART Art education at the elementary level affects student growth and development both physically and educationally. The development of motor skills is supported by the motion required in art classes, including holding pencils and crayons or using a paintbrush. Decision-making and visual learning skills are also supported by young students as they use creativity and critical-thinking skills in designing their own art projects. The development of visual-spatial skills is supported by drawing and painting activities.
STEM INSTRUCTION Students try to solve complex problems with an interdisciplinary approach while allowing students to explore new things, use their imagination and build a new invention. STEM education encourages teamwork as children can develop their communication and leadership skills while working in a team setting. Here at SBES, our PK3 to Grade 5 students have access to a fully equipped STEAM lab with building materials, 3D printers, code-able robots and more. Our school is also equipped with a fully functioning lab room for students in Grades 6 to 8.
MUSIC SBES students in Grades K to 8 participate in music classes once a week. Music education at the elementary school has been proven to benefit both the mental and social development of the young child. Similar to art education, music helps to develop spatial intelligence, particularly spatial-temporal skills. This allows students to visualize how elements fit together, in turn solving math problems. Music education is also found to support the development of the left side of the brain, which processes language development. With weekly classes, students sing and play instruments, as well as learn about the structure and value of music in culture and in communities.
SPANISH LANGUAGE At our school, students in Grades K–8 receive Spanish instruction once a week, fostering early exposure to a second language. Learning Spanish enhances cognitive development, improves memory, and strengthens problem-solving skills. It also builds cultural awareness and communication abilities, providing students with a strong foundation for future language learning and global engagement.
